Images of the Theater.
The pictures below, circa 1980, were taken just a short while before the Carver theater closed its doors as a community center for entertainment. Take a closer look, maybe you'll see your family car parked outside! It's always sad to see the places we hold near and dear slip into ruin. The Historic Carver Theater is about to open its doors once more as an entertainment venue. The good old days may be gone for good but what the future has in store for this jewel of Treme, is going to be even better!
Was There a Doctor in the House?
You better believe there was! In fact, after sitting vacant for nearly a decade, the Carver was converted to a thriving medical clinic that attended all the medical needs of the neighborhood for 13 years. That certainly was an unlucky number for the clinic. With the neighborhood decimated by Katrina and the public housing about to be removed, the clinic's time had definitely expired. But with a positive attitude and dedicated, hard work, up from the ashes will come even greater things!
Before the Work Began.
From 1992 until August 2005, The Historic Carver Theater was home to the Carver Medical Clinic. After six feet of Katrina flood waters ravaged the medical offices, the landlord decided it was time to bring the theater back to serve the community with entertainment. After demolishing the remnants of the clinic, a crew of hard working souls dedicated to revitalizing the community, completed basic cosmetic repairs and made the building "broom clean". Below are pictures immediately following demolition of the medical clinic.
